Longrain
Tokyo

2018  |  RESTAURANT |  TOKYO

Subtle design motifs of Longrain’s storied Sydney and Melbourne fusion Thai restaurants inform this Tokyo iteration whilst introducing a more sophisticated aesthetic befitting the restaurant’s location 39 stories above Shibuya’s metropolis.

Acknowledging an intersection of western and Asian cultures, custom brass lighting recalling Thai water chains spliced with mid-century inspiration from Fritz Nagel’s iconic modular candelabra drips from the ceiling. An illuminated 7-metre long bronze sculpture commission by Christopher Hodges snakes across a hand-rendered plaster wall like a serpent (an omen for luck and strength). His hand-painted floral artworks within the intimate private dining rooms further channel Japan’s reverence for nature and simplistic forms.
