2017 | RESTAURANT | BROADBEACH

Challenged by creating an intimate setting for The Star’s culinary crown – an izakaya restaurant – within a vast, open space, it was imperative this fine diner celebrated the hand-crafted and artisanal, capturing the delicate strength of traditional Japanese architecture.

Custom furnishings and timber joinery create a sense of enclosure and warm finesse. Softening the angular geometries are large circular wall murals painted upon the rear wall. Framed by adjustable timber panels accommodating assorted dining groups, they are inspired by icons featured on Japanese food labels. A vibrant back-lit installation bathing these rear tables and those around it in a subtle pink and purple glow further animates the restaurant’s rear.
